PRINTMAKING:

The Art Students League of New York's printmaking studios are where I blend my 'digital' photographs with 'traditional' printmaking techniques. 

I create, 'tradigital,' abstract art in luscious, saturated color using ink and paper,

PRINTMAKING:

The Art Students League of New York's printmaking studios are where I blend my 'digital' photographs with 'traditional' printmaking techniques. 

I create, 'tradigital,' abstract art in luscious, saturated color using ink and paper, as well as, other oil based and aqueous mediums, and receptive substrates.

My modern, repertoire of printmaking techniques include:

  • four color, digital polymer lithography
  • digital pigment transfer
  • monotype and monoprint 
  • colograph
  • sugar lift etching
  • mixed media montage and assemblage.

I print on various supports and substrates:

  • handmade, fine art, printing papers
  • Plexiglass
  • polyester 
  • metal
  • Mylar film.

PRINTMAKING - PROCESS:

'EMPOWERED,' is an example of my process:

  • combining, my 'digital' photographs with, 'traditional' printmaking techniques; to create one-of-a-kind, 'tradigital,' abstract, fine art prints.

I prefer to make small editions, or a, 'suite of prints;' perhaps six to ten variations, or 'riffs', on my original image. 

  • I expand, and further illuminate, visual possibilities of my original image by creating a, 'suite, of prints;' rendering one image into an, 'Édition de variétés.'
  • Intersting, visual outcomes result by varying: color palette, hue,  saturation, contrast and lighting.
  • Seeing a suite of prints, as a continuum,  makes a correlated, visual statement of my belief that  - 'multiple, image repetition- amplifiies impact.

PAINTING:

'CHESAPEAKE RAMBLE,'  is a an example of my abstract expressionist painting style:

  • I create images of space, time, and dream conjunctions.

My paintings are:

  • recorded visions of antiquity, and reimagined myths, captured in the collision of, 'emergence and descent,' with the geometry of: line, coil, and arc.   

My painted images are:

  • conjured in a moment of imagination,
  • painted directly, 'á la prima, on color-toned supports,
  • rendered  in acrylic on: canvas, board, or Mylar in large, gestural brush strokes. 

Color and movement are:

  • primary to all of my art, and infuse my work with robustness.
